A unique 15-digit IMEI number is assigned to every mobile phone, GSM modem, and device having a built-in modem. The GSM Association group defines the first 14 digits. A control character is used by the Luhn formula algorithm to produce the final digit. This is a unique number that is assigned to each mobile phone around the entire globe.
